MEET

SHANNON

A writer since childhood, Shannon has always loved the beauty and mystery of natural spaces, especially forests. Raised in Winnipeg, she fell in love with northern Ontario’s rock-and-tree landscapes on family road trips to Kenora and around Lake Superior.

MORE ABOUT

Faeryflower press

The making of the Campfire Stories books was an organic process, beginning with short tales that Shannon made up for her son and husband around their summer, spring and autumn campfires. Always a writer at heart, Shannon decided to record the stories as family mementos. As ink met paper, the plots and characters grew, and we realized these were worth sharing with a wider audience. Eric, then just ten-years-old, volunteered to make illustrations, and just like the swirling winds in “A Warning Knock,” the magic necessary to create a book began! Some of the stories became so long that the first Campfire Stories had to go to press without them!

Over the years, Shannon continued to tell stories on her family’s camping holidays. Those yarns, and the ones begun during creation of the first book, became the makings of More Campfire Stories.

MEET THE

ILLUSTRATOR

Eric Bowen is an aspiring architect, and the illustrator of More Campfire Stories from Northern Ontario and the original Campfire Stories from Northwestern Ontario. Eric was just 11 years old when he drew the whimsical pictures that grace the original Campfire Stories. While in high school, Eric took art courses each year, helping him refine his artwork by the time More Campfire Stories was published.
