Now that weโre deep in January, Iโm dreaming of warmer days and summer adventures. So, I thought Iโd share with you one of our Neys hikes last July, that I havenโt had time to post before. Sit back and enjoy a taste of summer!
Rocky staircases, cliff walls covered in elvin mosses, and grand vistas over forest, lake and mountains are just some of what this wonderful forest trail provides. You’ll also find dark caves along cliff bases, and musical creeks tumbling over rocks and under foot bridges! This trail has always been a favorite of our family since we started camping at Neys twenty years ago. From bearberry-dappled sand dunes, to quiet forest glades thick with ferns, to blueberry-dotted cliff tops offering spectacular views of Lake Superior and the Coldwell peninsula, The Lookout Trail gives you a glimpse into many of Neysโ habitats. On some parts, the trail up the mountain follows the creek as it cascades down the natural rock stairs (so make sure you have good foot gear!), inspiring imaginings of Tolkien-ish journeys. In fact, everywhere on this trail, itโs hard not to imagine trolls hiding among the rocks, or gnomes and elves ducking behind the trunks of spruce and birch, as you walk through the green-of-many-shades forest.
Hope you enjoy the photos, and if you havenโt yet had a chance to walk this trail, hope you get to try it out this summer!
